Remember, Remember

The Victor of the 120th Hunger Games
Ellery Haynes

District Five
Kills: 4

Second Place: Rotem Everly
District Seven
Kills: 2

For many years, Holly Everly kept quiet about her daughter's father. It was a mistake, a once in a lifetime opportunity that ended wrong. Spruce Groven was kind, but he couldn't be there for her - the Capitol would only use it against him if Spruce stepped out of place. As much as he loved his daughter, he couldn't risk it. Every month, Holly received payments, furniture, and Rotem would be showered with anonymous gifts. She loved the man who she never knew, and Spruce watched from afar as she grew. When she was reaped, his world crumbled. Spruce and Ellery would never see eye-to-eye over Rotem's demise, but his daughter died the same person she went in; if anything, she had grown in a place designed to destroy her.

Third Place: Rafe Corinthos
District Six
Kills: 2

Unlike many others, Rafe didn't have a home to go to. He had abandoned his life and family many years prior, unable to deal with a drug addicted Mother. Instead, his coffin was left on the streets of District Six in the pouring rain. In a twisted way, Rafe felt more comfortable there than anyone else. He would never get to see his Father - the same one who walked shortly after his birth - tending to the Earth to bury the son he never knew. He never got to see his sister, Thalia, bore a child named Rafe in his honour. And thankfully, he never had to see his Mother succumb to the addicted one cold night in bed.

Fourth Place: Gloria Lavelle
District One
Kills: 2

In the final moments of Gloria's life, her sisters, Inspire and Grace, finally realised what the Hunger Games were about. They were naive to it before, but Gloria opened their eyes accidentally. She wasn't pleased, but she knew that, deep down, her sisters wouldn't have coped. It was a wonder how Gloria did it so well. Gloria Lavelle had always been tough, but underneath was a girl who only wanted to be noticed and adored like her older sisters had. Tassel King, Gloria's best friend's Mother, refused her daughter entry - not after what happened to Gloria and Spruce's love child. Without knowing, Gloria was noticed and adored because she changed the look on the Hunger Games, and how truly soul-crushing it was. If tough Gloria could break, then anyone could.

Fifth Place: Cres Rhodes
District Two
Kills: 2

When Cres' death was announced, the Rhodes family was torn. His Father, Idmon, saw it as a simple failure. His Mother, Delfine, saw her child die and silently wept, fearful of stirring up Idmon's anger. It was his younger brother, Cadmus, who drew the short stick and called the family out on their flaws. Luckily, Cres would never have to see Cadmus be trained as harshly as he was because of his brash words, before volunteering ten years later. The difference was Cadmus won, in Cres' honour, and escaped the Rhodes household for good. Cres would forever look down on his brother with a sad smile, proud of the little boy who was stronger than he looked, and done things Cres would never have dreamed of.

Sixth Place: Lancel Deimos
District One
Kills: 0

Lancel's parents, Lysander and Medusa, were both thoroughly disgusted when people often brought up Lancel. He was their "mistake", the child who seemed to disobey their every wish. Medusa had always favoured his sister, Nyx, and when she died, there was no-one else to really love as much. Lancel blames Lysander the most for what happened; how he had to leave the house when the expectations, tension, and anger smothered him. Harley was the light, though, and sure she was not happy about the kiss, but she learned to forgive him over time because he volunteered for her, for their life, for the baby he never realised she was carrying.

Seventh Place: Joshua Kersey
District Eight
Kills: 2

No-one expected Joshua to lose his sanity. He was always emotional, someone who reacted strongly to the slightest of things, but this was new, even to the people that knew him the most. His Mother, Celia, was heartbroken. People often stopped her in the streets to question Joshua's quick slip into insanity, but she defensively waved it away, saying that the Capitol had polluted her child's mind and that was that. His Father, Arthur, was more realistic, reminding his wife that Joshua broke because he just wasn't strong enough. And truth was, he just wasn't.

Eighth Place: Arietta Fenton
District Six
Kills: 0

Arietta's death didn't shock that many people, but it did sadden those around her. Arietta was the life of the party, the sun in the room. She was chirpy and happy, despite the outcomes of most things. Even after her Father died, she managed to move on by honouring his life with a painting that she hung in her room. So when Arietta died, who was there to honour her? The Peacekeepers of her district - the same men who worked alongside her Father, Lancelot - carried her coffin through the district, where confused people gathered to honour a girl they barely knew. She was buried within the local graveyard where her Mother, Ellen, would visit every day, just to find a way to continue to smile.

Ninth Place: Ampry Erfinder
District Three
Kills: 2

Everyone knew that Ampry wouldn't survive. She might've been tough in mind, but reality was that she wouldn't be able to do it. Her parents, Cordin and Viresse, had already came to terms with that. The person most affected by Ampry's death was her sister, Pel. It broke the younger girl in two. When Ampry was buried, Pel lost it, screaming and shouting out hatred against the Capitol. The once polite girl had changed with her sister's death. As Ampry lay six feet under, Pel went against the Capitol, joining a group of teenagers who would often tag buildings and such. Years later, Pel watched an acquaintance, Jeremiah, be reaped, and swore her revenge on the people that took them all. Nobody would see Pel again.

Tenth Place: Jericho Castillo
District Seven
Kills: 2

Jericho's slow unravel in the arena was watched by many, apart from Nanna Midge. She couldn't face her grandson become a husk of his former self. But they constantly informed, and as the numbers dwindle, the old lady began to pray to see her grandson again. When his body was crushed between the mirrors, and Nanna Midge was forced to watch his bones shatter, it caused a heart attack. All efforts to save her were lost. That year, the Castillo family buried two loved ones, side-by-side. Jericho could never apologise enough to Arietta on the other side.

Eleventh Place: Andora Seville
District Two
Kills: 0

Like the other fallen trainees before her, Andora was buried on Training Centre grounds. The people who liked her turned up, and the ones that saw as a snob simply drank to her death. Evander Rocque watched on as the flames licked at her body, smiling the entire time. No-one would know the reason why Evander sent her in; but everyone learned to fear his power because of it. Thales, her best friend, made sure to send her off with some words that didn't discredit her hierarchy over the others. Andora never got to tell Thales that, despite mixed feelings and emotions, she loved him... she just could never accept it. And Thales would never get to tell Andora the feelings were mutual.

Twelfth Place: Kristopher Midden
District Three
Kills: 0

Kristopher was often compared to his siblings, Pareal and Moltina, the most. They had the looks and the beauty, whereas he was the black sheep of the family. Still, when Kristopher began to act irrationally, they knew it wasn't him. They couldn't have been more wrong. Kris had hid his true self from them all for so long. His coffin was shipped back to his parents, Trix and Lila, who buried him with a quaint funeral. No-one turned up; mainly because people loved Kris for his jester-like personality, and not his real self. He would never realise that his biggest mistake was being someone he wasn't.

Thirteenth Place: Caritta Husk
District Eleven
Kills: 1

District Eleven had a darker edge to it than most thought. Most importantly, what Caritta thought. In her eyes, her Father was gentle and had a strong business, but underneath, his dodgy dealings led Caritta into hot water. He knew there was no mistake that Caritta was reaped, and the girl destined to take her spot chickened out. He made sure she paid for allowing his daughter to be taken away. Caritta's body never made it into the ground - rival families stole it, and Caritta's coffin was later seen up in the hills, open, her body missing. He would never get closure on her death, but everyone he found out was involved soon paid the price for their wrongdoings.

Fourteenth Place: Asya Novik
District Ten
Kills: 0

Many people saw the way Asya grew up from afar. They watched as she matured herself, looking after the things a parent should do for their child. Asya was much more dependant than people could ever see, though, and that's what scared her the most. And that's when the rumours began to circulate, and people began to notice that bad things tended to happen when Asya was in the vicinity, or at least beforehand. Her life went from average to worst, and soon enough, they had her believing their fables. When her coffin was sent to her Father, he had no clue how to mourn a child he never really understood, and so, Asya was cremated, and her ashes were scattered in the yard. She would forever be isolated from the people she yearned to know.

Fifteenth Place: Thorn Revan
District Eleven
Kills: 0

Thorn's death changed his household. His siblings, Briar and Mona, had already matured enough to not tease him anymore, but that didn't stop the suffocating guilt. The baby brother who they often mocked was now dead, and it was only the last few years that they were ever nice to him. It tore the family inside out. Thorn's parents, Yarrow and Shana, soon divorced as the death weighed heavily on the family. When Thorn was buried, his family split, watching from different sides of the grave. Thorn would always look on with a sad smile, knowing that they'd fix themselves one day - and they did, eventually.

Sixteenth Place: Wayne Fallows
District Ten
Kills: 0

Despite his negativity, Wayne had many friends. His funeral was noted in District Ten as one of the largest it had ever seen. His closest friends, Oscar and Reynold, were upfront, watching their best friend enter the ground. Later that night, when silence fell, they returned and bid their respects properly, a toast to Wayne's life, memories shared of his pissy nature. The Fallows family picked up their pieces and moved on, being one of few that could do so so easily. They had to - Wayne would've only complained if they wallowed too long.

Seventeenth Place: Austal Eridote
District Four
Kills: 1

Austal was sheltered his entire life. To him, the Hunger Games were another world that he was never allowed to experience. His Mother, Audrey, was protective of her son, and had every right to do so. Austal was born with a rare condition that meant when he got hurt, his joints would seize up, making it awful. Whilst Audrey lied to Austal - and Austal never knew - it was permanent, not something that could be cured. But Austal wanted an escape, and did so. It was a sad day for the Eridote family. It was even sadder when Austal was killed accidentally. With his body returned and burned at sea, his family tried to move on, hoping that they could. Their world had revolved around Austal and his needs for so long, they forgot what it was like to be childless.

Eighteenth Place: Cliff Harlaw
District Five
Kills: 0

Cliff's parents, Xavier and Yvonne, often pushed their son to be the best he could be. They wanted him to be perfect. But Cliff was far from that, and it tore him inside to be something they would never, ever like. Compared to most, Cliff had an extravagant funeral, with dozens of attendees and roses. His best friends, Jermaine and Zachary, watched with mournful eyes as their third member was gone. Ellery looked on from the distance - she told herself that she didn't care, but deep down, she regretted for her attitude towards Cliff. It was okay; he understood and forgave her. She would never know that Cliff always kept an eye on her.

Nineteenth Place: Lakyn Vale
District Four
Kills: 0

It was no secret that many didn't like Lakyn. People saw her more of a foe than friend. Lakyn never discouraged this, either, and garnered many enemies along her way. Her best friend, her sister Mist, was the only real person who attended her funeral. Even her parents refused to turn up, Lakyn's relationship with them left in tatters before she died. She was buried in the sand rather than the sea - mainly because Mist knew that Lakyn would be appalled with the salty water. Even in the afterlife, Lakyn only ever received enemies. But it was okay - because Lakyn Vale didn't need anyone bar her sister.

Twentieth Place: Micah Amaro
District Twelve
Kills: 0

The one thing that Henley Amaro regretted the most was not spending enough time with Micah, working out his multitude of problems. After Micah's Mother had died, Micah withdrew in himself, but Henley was too busy with work and payments. He let Micah develop into the hypochondriac, paranoid, scared boy that he was just before he died. Henley watched on with hollow eyes as Micah was lowered into the ground. He'd never forgive him - and soon enough, Micah's brother Kers, tired of the depression and anger his Father had sunk into, left Henley to his own devices - a rope and a high beam.

Twenty First Place: Lucia Bailen
District Twelve
Kills: 0

Lucia's best friends, Ayla and Chara, watched on with wide eyes as Lucia aggressively fought Ampry, pure desperation controlling her actions. They both bore tears as their friend died so harshly. However, Lucia's parents were more indifferent. They closed up shop for the day to mourn their child, but after that, they moved on; they had to, they couldn't afford to wallow in the guilt. Lucia was forgotten about just moments after her heart stopped. When her coffin arrived, her Father, Orson, hurriedly buried her in the backyard, not even bidding her goodbye. They simply couldn't do it.

Twenty Second Place: Bryony Dubois
District Eight
Kills: 0

Everyone thought that Bryony was a happy girl... but no-one knew about the suicide attempts, or the self-harm, or even the days that she spent in bed crying her eyes out, all alone. She made it her mission to make friends, and touched so many people along her journey. When Bryony revealed her scars during the interviews, she brought hope to the other children who believed they had no-one either. Without knowing it, Bryony brought about confidence in the youth. She'd never know that, as she was buried, a huge attendance appeared, sending her off. She always thought she was alone; but she really had everyone.

Twenty Third Place: Stefan Rui
District Nine
Kills: 0

Nobody understood Stefan's disorder. But it was fine, because neither did he really. It happened their fateful day when the one of the group, Sergei, drowned and no-one saved him. Stefan saw the scene over and over and over. Eventually, when bad things happened, he zoned out on instincts. He knew it'd lead to his death. When it happened, his closest friends, Lilina, Nils, Nailah and Ephraim, swam across the reservoir in his honour, a token to the life of Stefan Rui and everything he had went through. Stefan's body was cremated, and ashes scattered on the reservoir's waters, joining Sergei in the afterlife.

Twenty Fourth Place: Lyra Chambray
District Nine
Kills: 0

No-one expected Lyra to survive. Her own parents had come to terms with that the moment her name was called, and learned to mourn before her heart had even stopped beating. She was already dead. Her coffin was small compared to many. It rattled as Remy and Nicolet accompanied her to the house, Hannah's small body bouncing inside. The least the Capitol could do was make sure Hannah was by her side. When she was buried, Hannah was too, because she was the only friend that Lyra had even known. No-one came to pay their respects; they still believed she had murdered the boy, when in reality, she simply watched her only living friend die before her eyes, helpless.
